After almost thirty years working in National Press, The Press Association and online with AOL (and before that in Opera and Concert Management) there came the opportunity to start something new. Days spent discussing brand personality, self-actuation and running media pitches are now part of that other life as well as hours spent in trains, tubes and taxis. I grew up with dogs and also had occasion to work with them in my professional life (managing the Daily Star’s Greyhound became part of my day to day to do list at Express Newspapers).
Most of my childhood was spent with a succession of Pembroke Corgis; we also had Yorkshire and West Highland Terriers as well as an Elkhound. Having lived in Forest Row for over 10 years (and growing up in Oxted as a child) working with dogs is something I know and love best. Combining that love together with my knowledge and fascination with Ashdown Forest, setting up a Dog Walking as well as Pet Sitting business seemed the natural next step. I’ve walked the Forest weekly ever since we moved here in 2002, treasuring this incredible natural resource we have close by whilst respecting the need to be responsible when in charge of a group of dogs.
I run the business on my own for the moment and walk the dogs on the Forest during the week with my son Tom. Dogs are social and noticeably happier when they’re walking as a group which is how we prefer to work although we do offer individual walks if required. Dogs are by nature pack animals which is how their ancestors grew and developed in the wild. We keep the pack in hand (on occasion on the lead) and under control especially around horses, small children, other walkers whilst knowing where grazing sections are to avoid any temptations to chase sheep or cattle. We do not walk close to roads as a practice. Also as part of our responsibilities we clean up after all our dogs throughout the walk and dispose of the packages in dog waste bins away from the Forest.
The name ‘The Woof Pack’ is a reflection of how we work with dogs; working with their natural instincts as well as their domestic roots. Our walks are fun with plenty of interaction and chat whilst maintaining the control over the pack; the result is lots of wagging tails and enthusiasm!
It’s a philosophy we bring to all our dog-based services.
Alastair has been brilliant with our nervy dog, popping in to exercise him when we're out, developing a keen understanding of him.

Alastair enabled us to enjoy our holiday in the knowledge that our animals and house were in safe hands. We would not hesitate to recommend Alastair, in fact we have booked him for our next holiday! N Poole: Upper Dicker
